COURTNEY REEVES WELCOMES YOU

English/ESL/Test Prep Tutoring

BIO

Hello! My name is Courtney Reeves. I am currently a TA at Iowa State University working on my Master's Degree in English with a minor in Education. I teach Speech Communications 212 at ISU, which is a foundational speaking class taken by 90% of the students. I have worked with IHSSA groups and currently judge for contest within the state. I previously completed my BA in English with a teaching license for 5-12, including endorsements in Reading, Theatre, and Speech. I just recently went to Rome to look at the differences between schools in the United States and in Italy. I observed many variations that would help students in the US, so I will apply those strategies to my classroom. These changes include Socratic seminar, PBL, Open-minded atmosphere, risk-taking in the classroom. I have three children, Connor (20), Griffin (14), and Bella (12). I spend a lot of time watching them participate in sports, playing cards or other board games, watching movies, having friends over, and of course, reading their homework. I also enjoy reading a variety of books that look at social justice issues that I can share with my students. I hope that we can talk about books in class with the ability to help students pick new types of books to read.

"Instead of a national curriculum for education, what is needed is an individual curriculum for every child."
- Charles Handy

"I am a teacher. It's how I define myself. A good teacher isn't someone who gives the answers out to their kids but is understanding of needs and challenges and gives tools to help other people succeed. That's the way I see myself, so whatever it is that I will do eventually after politics, it'll have to do a lot with teaching."

- Justin Trudeau
